A Colour-blocked Coat
Adding a statement colour-blocked coat is a great way to update your wardrobe.
First you'll need to source a couple of colours in the same fabric or fabric of a similar weight. This Unlined Raw-edged has been made in boiled wool.
Getting the proportions right is key to successful colour blocking. Here the colour-blocked body has been dissected in line with the top of the pockets.
For the top and bottom of the coat to look balanced the front and back have been lengthened by 12cm. Adjust the pattern as shown in Illustration A.
Next draw a line on your pattern where you want the change of colour Illustration B.
Trace off the different coloured sections (Illustration C) remembering to add 1cm seam allowance to each section. Stitch the colour blocked sections together first and then complete your coat as directed in the instruction sheet.
