Exaggerating the tie

Pussy bow blouses have been around for quite a while now, but this season the trend is for the bow or tie to become exaggerated, so I thought I’d give it a try. 

I doubled the width of the bow piece and elongated it to 144cm in length. 

At the same time I altered the sleeve to short with a gathered cuff. The length of the new sleeve piece is the finished sleeve length (33cm) plus the width of the elastic and 2cm to allow for seam allowances. I also made the sleeve parallel from the underarm down as shown above. 

I made the blouse as instructed in the pattern with the exception of the sleeve cuff. Here stitched the elastic into a band and placed this over the sleeve, turned up the hem and stitched to secure. 

I chose a ‘paper touch’ cotton poplin from Ditto as the crispness of the fabric would hold the bow.

The finished tie has the desired exaggerated look, however it maybe a little oversized for everyday wear but great for evenings or an event.
