Tailored Shorts
Shorts are everywhere this summer but it’s a trend I've been reluctant to embrace. However after months of trouser wearing during lockdown, the idea of putting on a dress or skirt seems strange. With temperatures rising I decided to give shorts a go. Of all the styles out there the one I'm most attracted to is the longer tailored short, cut off just below the knee (not my best feature these days!)
Using The Wide-Legged trouser pattern I simply turned the leg pattern pieces up by 30 cm; this allows for 7cm hem turn. I decided to do without the front pockets, placing the pocket bag piece over the trouser front and cutting as one. I added a simple patch pocket to the back of the shorts.
I'm happier with these shorts than I thought I'd be. I love wearing them with one of my Box Shirts or Gypsy Tops The fabric I found in my collection, a heavy weight linen that hangs well. This length of shorts took 1.5m of 150cm wide fabric.
