The Classic Coat from Makers Atelier was a pleasure to make and definitely my most successful lined coat to date. I’ve been sewing for about 6 years and still need a lot of instruction but am more ambitious now. The coat isn’t a quick make and the devil really is in the detail. As Frances suggests in the pattern absolutely make a toile of the welt pockets - use off cuts so that you’re making them in the same thickness fabric. My first one was only okay so I was glad I’d practised first.
I invested in a tailors clapper. An excellent purchase and resulted in beautifully pressed seems in my gorgeous herringbone fabric from Fabworks.
On the ‘make more of your pattern’ link for the Classic Coat on the website Frances has added some pics to aid the lining process - these really helped me. I went up 1 size because I wanted to be able to put a thick jumper underneath and am very happy with the fit. A great pattern and definitely one I’ll be making again and again.

Love my new coat. Pattern is The Classic Coat from @themakersatelier . My favourite part is the lining which I originally bought to make a dress, but decided it was too thin.
Loved the designer details like the welt pockets and how these patterns come together so well. Not for the novice, but so satisfying when you can make a one off garment.
