In my vast array of fabrics, I had this wonderful silk wool mix with an almost taffeta-like sheen. I liked the idea of a formal looking dress that wrapped and tied.
I thought the Shawl Collar Coat pattern would be a good place to start. My idea was to use the pattern as is, just drop a size, slightly narrow the sides towards the hem and add a half belt, which is exactly what I did.
The belt is made from two strips of self-fabric, bagged out. I attached one end into the side seam and the other to the front, stitched between the front and facing. At the other end I attached this coordinating vintage buckle I'd picked up years ago.
I'm very happy with the result, it's a stylish way to reinterpret The Shawl Collar Coat as a dress.
