The fish tail hem is one of the key features of The Sun Dress, however if you'd like to create something a little less casual try this.
By simply straightening the hem, the whole look of this style is changed.
Take your skirt pattern pieces and take a line from the centre front and run it all the way around, at the same distance from the waist - as shown above.
If you'd like a longer dress just extend the line that forms the centre front to the length you require.
If you are using a fabric that could 'drop', leave your un-hemmed dress hanging up for a couple of days. This will let the fabric settle.
We trimmed this version of the Sun Dress with vintage braid. This Size 12 sample with a straight hem took 4 metres.
