The Asymmetric Gather Dress

A sophisticated day to evening dress that's deceptively simple to make. However some dressmaking experience is required. The soft asymmetric gathers add definition and fluidity to this stylishly flattering design.

Fabric suggestions

For Woven or Knit fabrics with drape: wool or poly/viscose mixes with or without stretch, crepe constructions, velvets or silk satins.

Trims suggestions

This style requires a wide elastic. A pack of suitable soft elastic is available here

Asymmetric Dress sewing pattern review
Anna, Australia

I’ve just sewn my first Asymmetric Dress and it won’t be my last.  I used a 90% viscose and 10% linen blend and the drape was just perfect for this pattern.  I wore this dress to a recent sewing event (Melbourne Frocktails) and I felt sassy and sophisticated.  My sewing buddies swooned over my statement dress and commented how perfectly it suited my colourful, quirky and playful style.  The asymmetric design is a clever one, so if you’ve been wondering about this pattern, wonder no more, it’s a gem! Please note, I shortened the sleeves and the length of the dress to suit my personal preferences.
