The Modern Kimono

Inspired by the traditional Japanese Kimono, this modern shape has the sleeve and body, cut as one.

The result is a fluid versatile style that is easy to make and easy to wear.

Fabric suggestions

This style is best in crepe style fabrics like the Kimono crepe shown here from Cloth House.

Can also be made in silks and satins.

Fine cottons are also suitable but would not have the same fluidity.

Sewing pattern review
Barbara, UK

I made the modern kimono and am delighted with the result. I am not a very adept sewer and usually struggle to finish things but this was a dream.
I found the instructions very good and clear and did not get into my usual tangle. the only thing I had some difficulty with was the hem and inside facing but that was more me than the pattern I think. So a top class pattern, very good instructions, easy to make and finish in just a few sessions. there was no complicated finishing off which is always a killer. So I recommend this pattern to anyone who can sew a bit but isn’t a great expert with patterns.
