I've really appreciated this cosy sweater dress during all the stormy weather we've experienced lately. This is The Maker's Atelier Wrap Dress pattern and it's a good-un! What I really like is the fact that the wrap is high and and remains firmly in place. Half of the tie wraps round the body inside the dress (if that makes sense) coming out through a gap in the left hand side; this ensures that it feels nice and secure.
There are two versions of this dress on the pattern - wrapped and tied - which is the version I made, or a fixed crossover. The sleeves have been designed to be 'fashionably overlong' as described on the pattern - you can't see this on my version but I found it to be comfortable.
Suggested fabrics are fluid single jersey fabrics with lycra content. I opted to use a heavier rib sweater stretch knit from Minerva, which was a medium-weight mix of polyester, rayon and spandex.
Although the pattern doesn't require a lining, I opted to add one to prevent the fabric bagging at the elbows or seat. I'm not sure this was strictly necessary but only time will tell, I guess. The lining was a medium stretch knit which feels nice and smooth against the skin, but does limit the stretch of the sweater knit somewhat.
I must admit, I don't often wear dresses in the Winter, but this one is very cosy, and comfortable. On top of that it was quite a straightforward make, run up on the overlocker and no fastenings to worry about! A very welcome and versatile addition to my wardrobe.

I recently made the Fixed Wrap Dress in a Rayon Jersey and I am absolutely thrilled with my dress! I love it so much that I have ordered fabric to make two more for spring. I love how the dress hugs my curves but isn't too clingy. Thank you so much!
The Wrap Dress is one of my favourite patterns by TMA. Extremely versatile: I have made the dress version, 2 long-sleeved tops by shortening it and a short-sleeved cropped version for my daughter. As all TMA patterns, clear instructions and an overall pretty easy make. Simple shape, but the final effect is extremely flattering. When using a viscose jersey I sized down, as it's a very drapey stretchy fabric. But the cropped version for my daughter is very true to size, as I used a cotton/lycra fabric. Totally recommend this pattern.
I have been wearing my new Wrap Dress for two days and I adore it. The fabric is nice and comfortable and I adore the sleeves. I made it in a 16 (going by measurements) and it seems to fit fine. Mind you, so did your size 12 that I tried at the Alexandra Palace Knit & Stitch Show. I interfaced the shoulder seam with a small strip of thin interfacing and I am happy about that. I also used fine stretch interfacing on the facing and belt. I'm not sure this was all that great an idea. One of the lovely things about the wrap dress is that the bodice lies so well against the bust. Mine now stands out a bit.
