A Flared Shirt Dress
The Flared Shirt has been one of our most popular patterns to date and this led me to wonder what variations could be made with it.

The obvious one was a simple summer dress which is what I’ve created here.
The front and back have an additional 60cm added to the length, inseam pockets and a narrow tie to add some definition to the back.

Above is how the extended front piece looks. The ties are positioned 20cm down from the armhole and the pockets 28cm from the armhole. The pocket pattern piece I simple to create the edge needs to be at the same angle as the side seam and the bag just large enough to take your hand.
The ties are two lengths of fabric 24mm wide cut down the length of the fabric. I used a 12mm bias tape maker to fold the edges in, then folded the tape over again for a finished width of 6mm. The ties above are 110cm long as I wanted to try different ways of tying them but 70cm would be long enough if just tying at the back.

The ties can either be loosely tied at the back as shown here.

Or if longer length ties are added they can be wrapped twice around the midriff area as above.

In this paisley style fabric, the dress has a prairie feel however in a plain dark colour the dress would have more of a city style.

The dress takes 1.2m more fabric than the quantities given for the shirt.
