An oversized shirt dress

When I found this vintage cotton seersucker stripe fabric I felt it would lend itself to an easy oversized shirt dress shape.

I decided to play around with The Flip Collar Shirt Dress pattern, I liked the idea of grown on sleeves and using the stripe of the fabric in two directions.

The pattern has a shirt placket to the waist seam then different options for the lower half. I decided to take the top half and extend the front and back to a length of 104cm omitting the waist seam altogether. I also added the centre back seam to allow for the change in stripe direction.

I cut one front and back piece with the stripe running horizontally and the other front and back vertically. I also cut the front facings with one in each direction on the fabric.

I then made up the dress following the instructions adding pockets in the side seam and of course buttons down the full length of the front placket.

The finished dress is perfect over Wide-legged Trousers in white linen – relaxed summer dressing.
