Colour-blocking The Big Easy Top
It was the selvedge edge of this rich cobalt blue wool that caught my eye, I love the way it looks like the edge of a warm blanket. The loose weave of this woven wool fabric has a similar handle to washed or ‘boiled’ wool/viscose jersey knit fabric which is what gave me the idea to mix the fabrics up.
I bought a metre and decided to make this simple but effective colour-blocked Big Easy Top. I chose a winter white, washed wool for the top section and the sleeves. To make the most of the fringed edge of the blue fabric, I cut the lower section lengthways with the selvedge as the hem.
The dividing line on the garment sits above the bust line, 47cm from the top of the funnel neck on the pattern piece. I added 1cm seam allowance to both the upper and lower front and back pieces and joined these before making the top.
