Creating a patchwork Shirt
Patchwork has been a growing trend since the pandemic started.
Fashion companies with financial or supply chain difficulties, have been plundering their fabric stocks to create new collections in innovative ways; patchwork is the perfect solution.
For the Box Shirt created here, I grouped together left over lengths of cotton fabrics, all of similar weight. I cut strips of 80 cm length in various widths and stitched them together. 80cm is long enough for both the sleeves and front and back pattern pieces of this style. I then made up the shirt as normal.
If the fabrics available to you are smaller in size, consider a squared patchwork or more random pattern of patching. It’s a great way to use up all the odds and ends left over from other sewing projects.
