Lengthening The Swing Jacket
Lengthening the Swing Jacket is simple to do and the result is a great update to this wearable style.
For the mid thigh length as shown here, take the front, front facing and back pattern pieces and add an extension of 24 cm to each piece. Follow the curves of the original hem to keep the line. If you are fuller busted you may find the jacket is shorter at the front. To compensate for this, add a couple of centimetres to the front, tapering to nothing by the side seam. Make up your jacket as instructed in the pattern.
The increased length makes it possible to add in-seam pockets as shown here. The jacket is finished with two buttons to fasten the jacket at chest height. This works well with the overall proportions of the new length.
To accommodate the wider pattern pieces use 150 cm wide fabric. This Size 12 sample required 2.50m of fabric; size 22 will require 3.50m. Of course the jacket can be lengthened further but the final length will be determined by the width of the fabric.
