My Perfect Transitional Top

This is my perfect transitional top; it’s a variation of The Drawstring Dress in some stunning crinkle silk fabric.

I found this fabric from Til The Sun Goes Down back in the spring, but wasn’t quite sure what to make with it. It’s so special and also slightly tricky to work with, but after months of prevarication, I decided upon the Drawstring Top.

However the fabric width is too narrow for the original front in my pattern. So I manipulated the angle of my centre front line and created a cap style sleeve, as shown above. I left the sleeve and hem raw edged so I’ll probably have to trim the frayed threads every so often. But I just like the way the fabric hangs and for me the look is everything.

And as this is a very feminine fabric I’ve used plaited leather strapping for the drawstring tie. I didn’t want my top to look too twee; it's not a look I do!

The finished garment is really flattering, having less gathers at the front is much better in this crinkle fabric – I think the original cut would have looked too blousy.

The fabric is perfect for this time of year – so light when its hot, but looks great with a leather coat made years ago, I love this mix of texture and handle.
