The Boxy Jacket in Faux Fur
I found this fabulous Faux Fur from Dries Van Noten at Fabric Sales. It’s no longer available but they have others here. I thought it would make a lovely jacket and chose The Boxy Jacket pattern.
The only modification I made was to omit the front pockets and add inseam pockets instead. These I made in the lining fabric to avoid unnecessary bulk.
I also used large snap fasteners rather than buttons and button holes – they would have been a nightmare to sew on faux fur.
In hindsight I think I should have simplified the pattern further. The back shoulder and centre seam detail are lost in the texture of the fabric. If I make another in faux fur or teddy type fabric, these are the steps I would take:
I would have removed the seam allowances (1) at the base of the back yoke and the centre back seam, removing the back vent. Then piece the three together to create one pattern piece. This creates a much simpler shape (2).
There was enough in the offcuts to make a matching bag.
For this I used The Bijou Bag pattern from Issue 14 of the magazine.
The finished garment is warm and luxurious.
