A Bracelet Length Sleeve

Some time ago I acquired some lightweight cotton twill, with a touch of elastane but I was unsure what I would make with it. It's too lightweight for trousers or a pencil skirt although maybe possible for a shirt.

The crispness of the fabric combined with the sand colour however felt a little too military. Then it occurred to me that the Pull-on Shirt but with the bracelet length sleeve would add a feminine edge avoiding too much of that uniform feel. 

Although this fabric has only about 2% elastane it was fairly tricky to sew with. I interfaced the collar and front placket with a lightweight fusible woven interfacing which of course meant that those pieces were rigid. So when stitching the placket to the front, and collar to the yoke, extra care was needed.

This shirt's sleeve length, is the bracelet length given on the pattern piece. 

The finished garment is more functional fashion than military uniform. There is something about the bracelet length sleeves that has the glamour of the late 1950's/early 1960's in style, especially when worn with a pencil skirt. 

The shirt feels great on and is a useful addition to any summer wardrobe.
