The Pull-on Shirt Tunic

For this autumn I like the idea of relaxed tunics over fluid Wide-legged Trousers.

So for the Evergreen Story in the Autumn 21 magazine I used The Pull-On Shirt as my starting point, extending the garment length and adding side slits. To balance out the new shape I altered the placket width and length too.

Here are the details…..

For the length I extended the front and back pattern pieces by 22cm and added a notch for the side slits 32cm up from the hem.

For the placket I extended the total placket length by 5cm and narrowed the placket to an overall width of 9cm, moving lines 2 and 3 in the instructions closer together from 3cm down to 1.5cm. I then made up the placket as in the original instructions.

I then made up the shirt as instructed adding two buttons to the base of the placket.

At the side seams I stitched down to the new slit notch on either side. As the garment pieces are overlocked I simply pressed each side seam open and the sides of the slits over by 1cm. At the hem instead of the original deep hem, I simply turned once by 1cm and pressed then again by a further 1cm. At the corner of the hem and slit I did a simple mitred corner for neatness.

The fabric is a printed viscose bought several years ago at a designer fabric sale but any fluid viscose, tencel or silk fabric would work well. The additional length required 25 cm more fabric than the original.
