The Sport-luxe Bomber with elasticated back
There is currently a lot happening with shorter jackets and particularly variations on the bomber jacket.
So when I found some great viscose from Ditto Fabrics I was inspired to make a lightweight variation of The Sport-luxe Bomber.

This variation is button-through with a simplified neckline, 3/4 length sleeves, an angled front hem and elasticated back.
Only the two main pattern pieces were used and the alterations were as follows:

I lengthened the front by 8cm at the side seam and 10cm at the centre front. I also added 2cm to the centre front edge to allow for button fastening rather than the zip the pattern was designed for.
The back I simply lengthened by 8cm.

All seams were overstitched using a twin-needle to accentuate, then once the garment was washed these add a slight puckering that is intentional to add to the sporty feel.
The elastic for the back hem and cuffs is 25mm deep. The width of channel for the back elastic is carried round to the front which is simply hemmed.

The neck was finished with 12mm bias binding. The buttons are self-fabric cover buttons with two gunmetal eyelets from Harlequin; these also add to the sporty feel.

I did not add a button at the hem as I wanted to wear the jacket with the front splayed.I bunch the sleeves up to just below the elbows when worn - the result is more blouse than jacket.

Worn with a coordinating pair of Utility Pants in the same fabric, the outfit could be mistaken for a jumpsuit.
