So far I have made this dress in black, white, red, beige, navy and purple and plan on making more! Its so easy to wear. I made the dress a bit longer than the original pattern adding a back seam with split. I added tiebacks instead of the gathering. I have made the Utility Top exactly as instructed in the pattern, with elastic around the middle. I think I've made this pattern about 14 times in all and the pattern pieces are still in prime condition to make more - unbelievable!

I chose to make the Utility Tunic and Top because I was attracted to the relaxed fit and classic design. The simple shapes of The Maker's Atelier patterns allow you to feature beautiful fabrics at their best. I made the tunic in a Nani Iro double gauze. I made the top in a Cotton and Steel rayon. For the top, I eliminated the center front seam and cut the front on the fold to make it easier to match the stripes. However, when I make this top again, I will keep the center seam as I like the structure it provides. I added one inch to the length since a bit longer seemed to work better for me. I also used the facing option rather than bias binding on the neckline. I top-stitched the facing because I like this detail when I've seen it in ready to wear. I'm extremely happy with both of these pieces as they are cool, comfortable, and stylish for summer. I plan to make more of each version, and I think this will be a TNT pattern for me.

Fabric and Trim Suggestions
Light to medium woven fabrics including cottons, linens and parachute silks. The waist detail requires cotton tape and a corded elastic.
