I was drawn to this pattern because of the unique styling of the tuck details on the bodice which adds definition to what is, essentially a loose fitting pull on dress.
This pattern is a versatile one and I can see many variations being made for my wardrobe. The pattern instructions are clear and simple to follow and suitable for a beginner as well as a more advanced sewer. The main body of the front and back include a grown on sleeve which is finished in either a gathered elastic or an elegant, subtle tuck. I made the version with a tucked sleeve, which co-ordinates well with the tucked front. You can mix and match the sleeve options as you can the back and front gather or tuck. My version has tucks at the front and elastic at the back because I couldn’t decide which option to make! I already have plans to make other versions of this too. I used a medium weight linen which drapes well and gives relaxed but stylish result. I think it would also look great in a light denim or chambray.
I initially made a size 16 as a toile (influenced more by my waist measurement) but would recommend that the bust measurement is the one to really go by. As I sit between sizes at 37” (bust size), I decided to cut out a 14 and use a 1.5cm seam allowance instead of the recommended 1cm. This was partly because I also wanted to use a French seam for the sides and shoulders. There is plenty of adjustment within the overall pattern as you can also alter the elastic and tuck sizes, if you wish, to get a perfect fit.
The facing sits well around a beautiful, elegant neckline. The under-stitching of the facing helps it to sit well, as does the stitching to the shoulder seam which avoids the facing popping out every time you put the dress over your head. There is room for you to add a label on the back facing to add a personal touch. I think you could also adapt the pattern and use a bias binding around the neckline if you prefer that to a facing. The pattern has an optional in seam pocket which is easy to install- the instructions are really clear to anyone who hasn’t used this method before.
Overall, this is definitely a staple, go to pattern. I love the fact that the simple styling means you can add your own interpretation to how it is made and worn- something for everyone! It is easy to wear all year round and would work well as a winter dress, teaming it with a long sleeved top, tights and boots.
