A versatile box-pleat skirt that can work across the seasons..... in lighter weight cottons and linens for summer and in brushed cottons or woollen fabrics for winter.
The pattern comes with two skirt lengths. This style includes pockets in the side seams and is fastened with a zip and button or hook and bar fastening at centre back.
The pleats can be fluid and soft or crisply pressed for a sharper look.
I’ve made the new pattern, the pleated skirt, in a dark plum babycord and it’s worked out wonderfully well, so delighted with it! Now I’m going to make several more in babycord and other fabrics, varying lengths/colours. I love the pocket construction and the ease of fitting to hip/waist ratio. A really well thought out classic that is spot on for the mood of the day.
One tip I employ when using babycord is to use a ‘slippy’ lining fabric for the inside of the lower hem so that the nap doesn’t make the garment ‘ride up’ when moving around… that seems to be a good solution. Jessica
Fabric and Trim Suggestions
Light to medium weight woven fabrics: cottons for pressed pleats and more fluid woolens or crepe constructions for softer pleats.
