Lengthening The Big Easy Top

The Big Easy Top was originally designed to make with boiled wool, microfleece or other winter fabrics that don’t fray.

However, the round-neck version can be easily adapted for lighter weight jersey fabrics, like this viscose stripe.

The lighter weight of this jersey suits a slightly longer length than the original cocoon shape. To lengthen, draw a line 58cm from the side neck.

Trace off the top section, leave a gap of 6cm or more if you wish, then draw the bottom section. As the shape is loose, I removed the curve at the side seam, drawing a line from the underarm to hem.

I repeated the same procedure on the back as shown above.

When cutting out I placed both front and back pieces on the fold, so loosing the 1cm seam allowance for the original centre seams.

To make up I followed the instructions in the pattern except for the raw edges. The neck was finished with jersey seam binding from Beyond Measure. Then the cuffs and hem were finished with a 1cm hem, stitched down using a twin needle; this gives a neat and stretchable finish.
