I purchased the Seam Detail Dress pattern recently and proceeded to make it up in a dark green baby cord which turned out to be a real triumph. Delighted. Then I had an important lunch today for which I made the pattern up a second time, but this time in silk: Painted blossom smaller scale Autumn silk from Beckford Silk which was delivered to me on Monday. It has also worked beautifully - this time with a matching silk sash that fed through discrete carriers placed 2ins below each underarm seam which, when tied, gave a slightly high waisted slightly kimono look to the dress. Length at mid-knee, black tights, high heeled red shiny patent peep toe shoes. Perfect for the occasion of a WW1 Commemoration gathering. Moreover, there is enough left over of the silk to make a silk pocket handkerchief for my husband, hand-rolled edge of course!

The seam detail dress with/without scarf:
I was looking around some shops in Vienna and came across a lovely summer dress in black and white but the problem was it cost €269 which I didn’t want to pay! So a trip to the fabric shop was called for where I found a length of slightly gaudy fabric in silver and black with black sequins on it hiding in a dark corner! I think it had been forgotten because there was no description or washing instructions attached but when I looked at the reverse side, I loved it and thought it was worth the risk so this is what you see here. The fabric was 145 cms wide and cost €30 per meter so for almost the same effect as the shop dress, this cost me a total of €70 including the lining. I haven’t counted the cost of the pattern as I have used it so many times to different effect that the cost gets reduced each time.
