An unlined maxi length skirt with fly front fastening and front pockets. The side seams are swung forward to create a flattering silhouette.
There is a deep kick pleat at the back and optional kick pleat at the front.
The skirt can be underlined if making in wool or similar.
Jennifer, UKI made a denim skirt last year and wear it a lot. However I decided I’d like one without a front split to make it more practical and the @themakersatelier #tmamaxiskirt fits the bill.
It’s a great pattern and went together perfectly. It was a pretty quick make and would have been even quicker without the topstitching but I’m pleased I decided to do that. I made a 10 grading to an 8 based on my measurements but actually the waist is a bit big so next time I’ll make a straight 8.
The fabric has been in my stash for a while and was from @fabricsgalorelondon. I finished it off with a leather label from @little.rosy.cheeks on the pocket. I would love to make a cream denim one at some point. I have worn this skirt already as it goes with a lot of things in my wardrobe. It’s just right for a British spring/summer.

It was my first time sewing a curved front fly zip, so I was really careful to follow the instructions word for word, and it worked! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 My sizing put me at size 12 for the waist, graded to between 12-14 at the hips. I feel like the waistband is *slightly* too big, but the skirt body itself is perfect. I made the version with a kick pleat at the back, using a perfectly weighted chocolate corduroy by Tessuti Fabrics. @stitch_don’t_kill_my_vibe

I had some heavy black linen left over from making this top and new exactly what to do next. This is my type of ‘Co-ord’ i.e. not a flounce or a frill insight! (Apologies if you love flounces and frills!)
Linen sewn to look like denim. Twin needle top stitched to within an inch of its life. It’s my birthday outfit. I’m 60 this week.
DETAILS I sized up and I’m so glad I did. My waist fell between two sizes. I cm seams. Easily made from 2m of linen. I did not add patch pockets to the back. I’m 5ft 6” but added an inch to the length for a true maxi look. It worked out perfectly. The fly zip instructions are fantastic. The subtle side seams on an angle are very flattering too!

I've made a number of Makers Atelier tie blouses - a pattern that came out of the Essential Collection they brought out quite a number of years ago - and I know that their patterns are well-drafted, straight-forward and classic. The first one I made from quite a stretchy pin-wale cord I have and I had to make some adjustments to the sizing to accommodate the stretch.
The second - and my current favourite - is a camouflage print with a slight amount of give. This time I added the front kick pleat as well as the back. I'm a size 16 Australian sizing, so I went to an 18 UK. The skirt comes together very quickly - particularly if you have previously done a lapped zipper. From memory I added a little width to the waistband - possibly a seam's width - but that was my only adjustment. This is by far the most put-together skirt I've made in the past couple of years and is my absolute favourite. I love it and am planning to make a couple more!
