The Faux Fur Jacket - The Maker’s Atelier has done it again. The make and style of this jacket are on point. Luxurious . I would definitely recommend this pattern.
Basically, try not to overthink the instructions. This is not a quick make. But the payoff is worth the effort involved. You are working with faux fur which can be fiddly. I would recommend using a walking foot on a home machine especially if one is sewing a midweight faux fur. I found it was easier to use a marker rather than chalk on the back of the fabric to draw around the pattern pieces.
I cut out the back of the fabric with a special fur blade but a craft blade would work just as well. Both cut like butter and preserve the length of the fur fibers on the other side and are faster than scissors.
I made the shawl version of the jacket. Had a few questions in regards to the instructions. Nothing was written about combing or tucking the fur fibers within the seam line before sewing, but I was aware of this. And use clips rather than pins. It might have been easier to have larger seam allowances especially when sewing on thick furry fabric. Don’t worry about the seam allowances not looking attractive. The lining takes care of the issue.
Wasn’t quite sure where to stitch “the top and the bottom to hold (pocket) in place”. Perhaps a better diagram would be helpful.
As far as the lining is concerned, just follow the instructions to the letter. I did however neaten the edges of the lining before seaming. It all works out well if you remember to make the lining material on the back piece a bit smaller per the pattern instructions.
